Monthly Bible Reading Schedule

Greetings in the Lord and welcome to this month’s Bible Reading Adventure!

First, it is a great joy to introduce new participants who have joined in our walk through the Bible: Rollie, Mirthy, Grace, Mary, Jake, Sue, Pastor Denny, Jack and Matt. Your faithfulness and commitment to read God’s Word on a regular basis is indeed an inspiration and an encouragement to all of us. As most of you know, this is strictly a voluntary reading program that you do on your own or with your family/friends. If you miss a day or two because of work or travel, no one is checking. The reading program merely provides a schedule to take us entirely through the Bible every three years. Many appreciate the simple format and numerous comments have been received about the refreshing and transforming power of daily scripture reading. Continue to pray for each other (272 at last count) and for God’s blessings and peace in our homes and communities.

Hosea, Joel, Amos - Minor Prophets, Major Prophecies.

For the next few months, we will explore the books of the twelve Minor Prophets. So named not because they are of lesser importance but because of the brevity of their recorded messages. However, make no mistake, some powerful truths are revealed. “For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.” (Hosea 6:6) “I will pour out my spirit on all people….And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Joel 2:28-32) “Hate evil, love good, maintain justice in the courts.” (Amos 5:14-15) Let us read and take to heart the messages of these mighty prophets.

As a part of our journey each month, we highlight a teaching of Chris t and a character quality to consider.

Commands of Christ – “Go the Second Mile”

“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also. Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two.” Matt. 5:38-41 (NASB)

Deference

Associated with this command is the character quality of Deference. Some definitions of deference include: respect, esteem, regard, reverence, admiration, awe. Jesus says that the greatest commandment is to love God, and the second is to love others. By practicing deference towards God and others, we can fulfill Jesus’ teachings. Then we can truly experience the great joy of going the second mile. May God bless you abundantly!
